A
MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
Welcome to
the Blenheim Golf Course Website.
The
following is a tee to green overview
of some of the more technical and
interesting aspects of our course,
which have been developed since its
inception in 1967. By necessity it
is limited to a thumbnail sketch,
briefly outlining those points that
we regard as our strengths.
We have a
trio of course ratings; red, white
and blue, the markers for which can
be placed on 41 separate tee decks,
allowing the course to be enjoyed by
every caliber of player and from a
variety of vantage points.
To aim for
is a mere 23 acres in total, of
irrigated poa annua fairways. Cut at
just under a half inch, they are
pleasant to play from. If you stray
however, there is a buffer of
primary rough to brake your ball
before it rolls into the bluegrass
rough, which cut at 2 inches can
undermine your confidence.
There are
2.5 acres of greens, which are
undulant and quick, cut at just over
one tenth of an inch. Since they are
comprised of a blend of bentgrass
and poa annua grasses, they are
relatively grain free, giving
consistent ball roll and are also
resilient to the wear of everyday
play and a long season.
Turf is not
the only thing you will find at
Blenheim. You must be aware of the
many strategically placed greenside
and fairway bunkers. These are
filled with the highest quality
off-white bunker sand trucked in
from Huntsville Ontario, which will
make your daunting "task at
hand" as pain free as possible.
Water too
can be found. There are five ponds
that come into play on 6 holes and 4
creeks on 10 holes. These serve not
only as hazards but also as a
sanctuary for fish and fowl and help
to break the monotony of turf.
We are
fortunate enough to be located
within the "Carolinian
Forest" region of Southwestern
Ontario, and have sustained and
endeavored to enhance that niche of
arboriculture. Many species of
Carolinian forest can be found
lining our areas of play, and 6
holes either play through or are
bounded by forest. Also, in keeping
with the natural motif, we preserve
nearly 2 acres of
"naturalized" area. No
mower, fertilizer or pesticide will
find a home in these areas where
wildflowers, water, trees and even
an errant shot gets relief. No entry
into these areas is allowed, but a
free drop is available without
penalty.
Paying heed
to the player who prefers to ride,
we have 4000 linear yards of paved
cartpath. Even on the most inclement
days, carts may be allowed.
For those
who wish to loosen up prior to a
round, there are two practice greens
to choose from and a target green
with bunker as well. A driving net
is available for hitting longer
clubs.
Exercising
due diligence and through continuing
education we are endeavoring to stay
abreast of the most recent trends in
the industry, including those of
Nutrient and Integrated Pest
Management.
A keen
staff supports The Blenheim Golf
Club, who along with members are
proud of their facility inside and
out and the accomplishments met thus
far.
Enjoy!
